Black Friday takes place the day after Thanksgiving, the 4th Friday of November.
This day kicks off the Christmas shopping season. Black Friday is well known for its famous discounts! In the United States, some stores open at midnight, so you can do your Christmas shopping in the middle of the night!

The term “Black Friday” has several meanings:
– It first appeared in the press in 1951. The employees took a day off on the Friday following Thanksgiving, the roads were then completely heaving due to traffic jams, the police used this expression to talk about their overtime.
– A few years later, the term referred to the color of the ink used in the account books. Indeed, the purchases made by the Americans allowed the storekeeper to get out of the red, their finances becoming positive again. To do this, they wrote the numbers in black.
American stores decided in the 1970s to use the term “Black Friday” to designate the beginning of Christmas shopping.

In 2005, Cyber Monday appeared. Much less known than Black Friday, Cyber Monday takes place on the Monday following Thanksgiving and Black Friday, and is the equivalent and the continuation of Black Friday but online.
Black Friday is now present in a large number of countries, including in Europe. This tradition is becoming more and more popular, for example in France where it only appeared in 2014.
I didn’t know the history of this day, it’s really interesting to see how it came about
The black friday can be really useful to have good discount before christmas. but i find that there are less and less good deals!

Yes, I agree with you! I think it’s better in the US than in France

Once again in France, we try to imitate, but it gets lost quickly I think.
A few years ago the promotions were much more important!
Besides, in France, I think the phenomenon is recent. I have the impression that 8 or 9 years ago, it was not talked about at all.
At least it saves a bit of money on Christmas presents!
Thanks for the explanation of its arrival!

It’s only in the last 3 years that I’ve started to understand and care about Black Friday. It’s addictive once you have the money and it can be tricky! But it’s true that it’s an advantage for the beginning of the Christmas gifts to buy!
